Observation Checkpoints
The body shows proportional harmony, and the skeletal structure, muscles,
tendons, and ligaments are functionally well formed.
Skin is without looseness, and distinction between male and female is clear.
Proportions of height, body length, and chest depth conform to the standard.
Common Misread
Mistaking mass or length for strength, while undervaluing proportional harmony and correctness of construction.
Judging Notes
The essence of the Akita Inu lies not in judging each virtue separately, but in the harmonious unity of calm firmness, dignity, restrained power, loyal obedience, unaffected simplicity, and refinement. Restrained power must not become roughness or aggression, but remain strength held in control. Subduedness does not mean lack of presence, but unadorned composure, within which refinement must appear. In bearing and action alike, both weighty solidity and lively agility must be present; the dog must be neither dull nor superficial. Akita Inu type reveals itself not through exaggeration, but through restraint and balance.
